Our Vision

It is the vision of the RMPS department to provide opportunities to enhance pupils':

  • Knowledge and understanding of the beliefs and practices of religious and secular groups in the UK and around the world.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability for philosophical inquiry.
  • Own sense of morality and personal values through Global citizenship/Learning for sustainability to develop empathetic, caring and responsible citizens.
  • Ability to plan and conduct independent research, and develop investigative skills.
  • Team building and problem solving skills through active learning.
  • Work with other subjects and partners to give pupils richer experiences of RMP issues.

At Craigie, the RMPS department aims to help pupils develop values such as wisdom, justice, compassion and integrity.  We explore a range of issues in core RMPS and also offer National 5 and Higher in both Philosophy and Psychology for S5-S6, which are popular courses with impressive results.

Course Information

In Scotland, all children are required to participate in one hour of RMPS a week.  At Craigie, we see this as a valuable time where pupils can explore and discuss moral, philosophical and religious issues that affect daily life.  It is also a platform for pupils to develop an understanding and empathy for those from different cultures and religious backgrounds.

  • RMPS - National 3, 4 and 5.
  • Philosophy elective in S3.
  • Philosophy - National 5 and Higher.
  • Psychology - National 5 and Higher.
